Teatr Wschodni (The Eastern Theatre) is an artist-led, nonprofit cultural organization and grassroots creative hub located in Lublin, Poland. Operating as a vital alternative to traditional state-funded institutions, the theatre reclaims "the East" as a framework for resilience, regional heritage, and authentic perspective. Situated near the border of the European Union, it places a strong emphasis on multicultural collaboration, staging original multilingual productions in Polish, Ukrainian, and English that integrate the experiences of local immigrant, expat, and refugee populations.
Grounded in the belief that culture belongs to everyone, Teatr Wschodni is committed to radical accessibility, offering nearly all its performances, workshops, and youth initiatives free of charge or through voluntary contributions. In addition to its non-formal education and social activism, the theatre hosts international initiatives like the Republic of Dreams Festival, celebrating its 5th anniversary and launching preparations for the European Capital of Culture Lublin 2029.
