Robert Davidson (Guud Sans Glans — "Eagle of the Dawn") is an internationally acclaimed Haida artist whose career spans more than five decades. A central figure in the renaissance of Haida art and culture, his work is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Canadian Museum of History. Davidson comes from a renowned Haida artistic lineage that includes his great-grandfather, master carver Charles Edenshaw. At just 22 years old, he carved and raised the first totem pole in his hometown of Massett in nearly 90 years, an act that helped reignite cultural celebration in the community. In addition to his visual art, he has played a key role in revitalizing Haida song, dance, and ceremony, and is a founding member of both the Rainbow Creek Dancers and the Haida Gwaii Singers Society. He has received numerous honours including the Order of Canada and the Governor General's Award for Visual Arts.
