The Theatre Trail

Enjoy a guided stroll through downtown Summerland, with pauses along the way, so you can experience four fresh, original plays in surprising, downtown locations. Crafted and brought to life by Okanagan playwrights, actors and directors, produced in partnership with the Summerland Singers and Players.

Peg Barcelo
An in-person entertainer, as well as a film & stage performer, Peg has been making people laugh, cry & smile all her life. Vocalist, actor, standup comic, narrator, writer, hairstylist, balloon & facial artist, she’s been working at her craft through improv, murder-mystery dinner theatre, & classes.
Peg has started writing a webisode series called Bird of Prey, as a content creator, where she plays an older shero, displaying all of her martial arts, archery, vocalist & acting skills.
Cast as: 'Mary Spencer in Ryga festival's Theater Trails 2022, 'Woman' in the Movie of the Week - A Brush with Love 2022, 'Zella' in Driving the Doctor for Ryga festival 2021, ‘Mama’ in Lifetime Network’s Christmas Yule Blog 2020, ‘Janet’ in 2 Across on the Cannery stage in 2019, are her most recent primary speaking roles.
She is also narrating her first novel: the Longing & the novel adaptation of Bird of Prey, as serial episodes. 3 audiobook narrations are available on Audible & there is another narration in the works featuring multiple cast members voicing the characters, with Peg telling the story.

Dawn Bassett
Dawn has been involved in theatre since she was a teenager. She originally started mostly doing design work and holds a Diploma in Stage Management from Studio 58 and an Extended Degree in Technical Theatre from Simon Fraser University. While at SFU, Dawn was bitten by the Directing bug and has been mostly doing that for the past 6 years.  Most recently, Dawn has directed the Murder on the Rails series of Murder Mysteries on the KVR express in Summerland since 2017. A proud member of the Summerland Singers and Players, Dawn is excited to be involved again in Theatre Trails for her fifth year at the Ryga Arts Festival and is looking forward to more musical fun this fall, when she gets to perform in Covid! The Musical and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Rob King
Having once had the privilege of participating in a workshop conducted by George Ryga, Rob is a big supporter of Rygafest! He particularly enjoys being part of mysteries, comedy or both!

Shaun McNutt and Anna Lock
Lovers of all things theatre, avid outdoor adventurers, religious beach swimmers, strong beer drinkers, for fun writers, always laughing parents, makers, masterminds of Hallowe’en frights, lovers of life and each other!

Small Kitchen Chaos
Small Kitchen Chaos is the figurative and literal marriage of Trista Bassett and John Fraser, a couple who met through music, seven years ago, and who have been inspired by touring across Canada, seeing the world and approaching music from vastly different backgrounds and approaches. With a mix of instrumentation that includes ukulele, guitar, keyboard, pringle box shakers, teeny tiny cajons, kazoos and a slide whistle, Small Kitchen Chaos meanders their way through originals and covers from folk legends, past and present.

Ed Schneider
Ed has been on stage one way or the other since he was four years old and is still enthralled by its magic. He has worked with theatre companies in the Lower Mainland and Okanagan for as long as he can remember. Currently Ed is Director/Producer/Publicist for Many Hats Theatre Company, of which he is also a founding Director.
